Board Member – Pushcart Players
Position: Volunteer Board Member
Organization: Pushcart Players
Location: Remote/In-person (New Jersey-based events and meetings)
Commitment: Approx. 5–10 hours per month, including quarterly board meetings
About Pushcart Players
Pushcart Players is not your average theater company. We are a pioneering, top-tier social-profit theater company (founded in 1974) that brings high-quality, professional productions and education programs to young audiences. Through innovative storytelling, diverse representation, and arts education, we inspire creativity, empathy, and a lifelong love of the performing arts for kids of all backgrounds.
Role & Responsibilities
Board members provide strategic leadership, governance, and support to help Pushcart Players fulfill its mission. We’re looking for a board member who doesn’t just sit around nodding at meetings. We need someone ready to roll up their sleeves and get it done. Your responsibilities include:
- Governance & Leadership: Ensure financial and organizational sustainability while upholding the mission and values of Pushcart Players. Help steer the ship, making sure we stay financially solid, mission-driven, and ready to take on the world.
- Fundraising & Advocacy: Actively participate in fundraising efforts, donor cultivation, and community outreach to secure resources for the organization. Money makes the magic happen. You’ll help bring in funding through grants, donors, events—whatever it takes.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with fellow board members and staff to guide long-term growth and impact. You’ll help shape our long-term vision and make sure we keep growing.
- Ambassadorship: Serve as a vocal advocate for Pushcart Players, leveraging personal and professional networks to promote our programs. Use your network, your voice, and your influence to spread the word and get more people energized about what we do.
- Financial Oversight: Contribute to fiscal stewardship by reviewing budgets, ensuring accountability, and supporting financial initiatives.
- Board Engagement: Attend quarterly board meetings, serve on at least one committee, and participate in key events.
Ideal Qualifications
We seek individuals who are passionate about arts education, youth empowerment, and non-profit leadership. Ideal candidates will have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Fundraising & Development (grant writing, donor relations, event planning)
- Arts Administration & Advocacy
- Marketing, Public Relations, or Communications
- Finance, Accounting, or Legal Expertise
- Education & Community Engagement
- Nonprofit Board Experience (preferred but not required)
